landmark Landmark extraction algorithm

Hi the LandmarkThe landmarks are veryoften used in SLAM , what. What are the Algorithme those bealgorithms used to Extractextract them  , and how robot can diferentiatea robot differentiate the landmark landmarks, if they detectedetect one in point A at XtXt and another in Xt+1 howXt+1? How can the robot can know if Itsit's the same landmark or not  ? Sorry for my bad english :/
