I see in the realm of app/web dev theres quite a few books out there to detail on system design templates, best practices and concepts. For example senior software engineers are often asked to design the backend of a simple app

Are there such books in robotics that covers system design? I use ROS mostly these days, and it feels like the bulk of the design is builtin or forced on you by the packages you use as well as the ROS REPS. However, even ROS has right and wrong way of system design carried out by the end user.

$\begingroup$ ROS is simplisticly viewed, a messaging middleware with a component registry. General Purpose SW best prectices apply to robotics! I doubt that you will find modern SW architecture books which covers explicitly robotics. You can probably find robotics books which cover SW functions and include a monolithic architecture. Be sure to post an answer to your question if you find any good resource on this topic!. $\endgroup$ – 50k4 Sep 9 '20 at 20:48
