It is well know that operating the motor in saturation region causes current harmonics and will lead to degradation of motor.

Still in literature it is said that motor is run in saturation region.

So why is motor run in saturation region?

Also is it not possible to run the motor way below its saturation point ?

Can someone please comment on this ?

  • $\begingroup$ Welcome to Robotics Ranjan Pal, could you add some references for the statements you made? What do you mean by "well known" and what literature? In engineering we try not to use 100% of a motors specification, but equally you don't want to over spec a motor too much or your robot will weigh and cost too much, so it would be good to know from what angle you are approaching this question. $\endgroup$ – Mark Booth Feb 5 at 10:52
